Testing of Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design chemicals and materials framework
The European Commission has developed a framework for the definition of criteria for SSbD chemicals and materials to steer innovation towards the green industrial transition, foster substitution or minimisation of the production and use of substances of concern, and minimize impact on human health, climate and the environment.
The framework is composed of two components: a (re)design phase in which design guiding principles and indicators are proposed to support the design of chemicals and materials, and a safety and sustainability assessment phase in which the safety and environmental sustainability of the chemical/ material are assessed.
The European Commission announced the testing phase for the SSbD framework via voluntary reporting mechanism. Based on the feedback, the Commission will launch a revision of the framework. The testing period counts on the engagement of stakeholders.
The present survey is to collect feedback by stakeholders during the testing phase on:
- activities promoting the SSbD framework in R&I programs and policies
- the SSbD framework’s feasibility and applicability via testing with case studies, and to initially guide the users through the SSbD framework.
It is addressed to Member States, industry, academia, research and technology organisations or other stakeholders willing to test and provide feedback on the SSbD framework.
